Bulletproof

Unless you moved from Krypton, that’s likely a false assumption.   But, some folks go a long ways in life before needing to search for unauthorized holes — often needing to start with the foot and praying it doesn’t migrate higher. Read more…

Sheep

September 24th, 2011 1 comment

We are aren’t we?  It is almost impossible not to be sheep at some level.  Poker was a place we could avoid or not being sheep.  It was our microcosm of what plays out in the other arenas but we had a modicum of control of that.  It a lot of why we played. Read more…

Well, Gekko says good.  Like all subjects, until acted upon by the verb, it lacks any presence.  Las Vegas, gambling, rock-star, angel, Howard, Jesus, Tilt Boys  are staging a morality play.  Meet the cast and crew.  Autographs in the lobby right after the perp walks. Read more…

Nuts and Bolts

My barracks was open bay.  There were three squadrons left on base with open bay.  When I visited the place a year or so later, they were gone.  But, on base housing still has shared facilities.  Certainly not as primitive as the head in those WWII barracks.  One wall had shower heads; another held basins; and the other had dump stations.  There wasn’t a single partition in that room. Patently False

Every once in a while the good guys win one.  That seems more prone to happening in the courts.  Alexis de Tocqueville thought the greatest threat to freedom was the legislative process and that the courts would be the only protection from its tyranny.  A bit of that has played out in one of the more unlikely judicial venues proving that Al might have been ahead of the curve. I’ll drink to that

About the only thing Prohibition proved is that you can’t prohibit human proclivities. But, government never bothered to understand that.  The UIGEA stands out with many readers here.  Sadly, it is just one of many examples of using the law to attempt to form human nature. Read more…

Space Cadets

August 19th, 2011 No comments

It was on at 4:00 or so on our black and white 10″ TV — we got the oversize and squared picture model.  As you’ve guessed that was awhile back.  Things are a lot more advanced.  That guy with the weird space suit and gun with the bad sound effects was updated.  That’s what entertainment science government watchamacallit does. Jesus Freak

August 16th, 2011 2 comments

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God... — Nicene Creed.   That a common start to a early statement of faith that is used by many denomination.  On my good days, I support it fully.  I am and am not religious — certainly not in any political manner. Guilty Pleasures

I confess.  I do eat more chocolate than I probably should.  I ignore cholesterol level and don’t eat enough leafy greens. Over the years, there has been even worse.  I can’t think of any felony but misdemeanors abound.   I imagine few out there will try for the holier than thou bit.  And, none of us will rush toward discussing the consenting adult category. Retribution

Yesterday, a person I like took me to task for defending a guilty individual.  She probably right. He is likely guilty of something.  What she ignores is the religious, philosophical, and legal looks at proportionality.  A category I use here is Saints and Sinners.  It often speaks to the discussion we had in the comments.  She rightly points out the kid is probably guilty of something.  Sadly, she uses that to dismiss the horror — yes, horror — being perpetrated in her name as a citizen.
