Lo

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Barak Obama Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when  Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)  Well, `tis the season.   Super bargains mix with, what for many, is the real superman.   I attended a parochial school and every so often that smacks me up the side ob de head with remembering.  (Yup, being tallest I batted lead off.) A Nation of Laws

December 20th, 2011 1 comment

The title is supposed to reflect a good thing.  We’ve a history that we learned starting in grade school about how we rebelled against bad laws and fought a revolution.   Afterward, we designed a Constitution and followed up with a Bill of Rights to prevent the excesses that brought about that revolution.   Read more…

Wolf’s Clothing

The last post mislead or at least wasn’t complete.  I said the following and didn’t flesh it out.   I should link to myself here but screw SEO goodness.  The idea is a play on words.  I made a purchase from newegg.com and I don’t recall ever be much madder or happier.  It is a great example of libertarian, Wall Street, Online poker and so on. The Egg and I

That was a movie with populist humor about people on a farm out on the Pacific Northwest.  An resemblance to any blog living or dead is purely coincidental.  It introduced Ma and Pa Kettle who set the city folks that bought a chicken farm in their sights.   So, said coincidental blogger is probably closer to the fish than the Ma and Pa sharks.   But, this blog isn’t about any of that.  I was going to title it “I’m a cheap bastard” but I don’t want to give Josie a straight line.  (Happy, you link whore?) Why?

October 5th, 2011 No comments

Pan for closeup.  Joe looks to the sky.  Pain is apparent.  He repeatedly shouts one agonizing word: WHY!  If it is Brando you can see the scene but the word will be STELLA and I can’t figure a way to use that here.   It reflect the dregs we can find in “the human condition”  that sooner or later bites everyone.  Anguish, pure and simple. Fellow Travelers

October 4th, 2011 1 comment

That is a term from my shallow youth.  The more negative term at the time was Communist dupe.  This was the 50′s and paranoia was manifest.  Joe McCarthy was its poster boy.   We tend to fixate on problems more than solutions. There are dumb people.  There are people with principle.  Throw in authors and academics working it from another side.  Like the Chinaman supposedly said, “Interesting times.” Read more…

Know who your friends are

October 2nd, 2011 No comments

That’s good advice but hard to really get around without going through difficulty.  Sickness, various losses or serious problems are when we find who our friends are.  As far as poker goes,  I’ve sliced my RSS feed and dumped a lot the site that were more commercial in goals.   The feeds that are important are the ones I attached some form of real friendship to. Boilerplate

September 30th, 2011 No comments

Boilerplate is a term for the little bits that keep financial reports tasty for investors and government types.  Often the real jest of the reporting is in that area.   The auditors do things like register opinions and remark on exceptions or problems encountered.  Auditors carry their own baggage.  Some can get as deceptive as the folks they are checking up on.  After all, that nice Bernie Madoff and high-flying Enron had auditors.  Read more…

Playing Fields

August 29th, 2011 1 comment

Level is used a lot.  It is a good feature, right?  Certain an oft used aphorism.  It infers that what we all deserve.  Not being granted it is bad, very bad.  Over the years we have penalized those who tilted things.  We’ve had various names for them and they weren’t complimentary.   Dickens certainly defined those bastards — tea party types, right? I’ll drink to that

August 22nd, 2011 No comments

About the only thing Prohibition proved is that you can’t prohibit human proclivities. But, government never bothered to understand that.  The UIGEA stands out with many readers here.  Sadly, it is just one of many examples of using the law to attempt to form human nature. Read more…
