Frack You

God spoke to Moses from a burning bush, burning bush, burning bush,
God spoke to Moses from a burning bush,
And told him what to do.

It seems Hollywood has a similar agenda.  A new propaganda film starting Matt Damen is out that demonizes the new natural gas production.  There is a lot of pseudo science around these days and this is a major area for it.

Mainly based on government handouts, alternative energy is one of the buzz words.  Even with those massive handouts we’ve had as much corruption as benefit.  It is too costly compared to traditional coal production which is the most polluting production method; but we can’t individually afford many of the energy alternatives the government is promoting. Natural gas is a clean fuel that formerly was also costly compared to coal.

That has changed with the use of lateral drilling and fracking.  I see it in my utility bill for heating this winter.  My utility now separates delivery cost and gas cost.  My delivery cost are higher than the cost of the gas because of this increased availability.  This opens many option for the production of natural gas that can compete with traditional energy sources in many ways.

I invite you to take a look at what government studies show.  This isn’t saying that all is now well for what may be the overstated effects brought about by climate change.  But it is a clean source that we can use for a substantive period.  That seems a very good thing that is being, instead, demonized.

Sorry Matt but I think you’re being an ass about this.  Stick to thrillers.

And it is almost everywhere.  That holds down transmission cost.

But reading reports and informing myself is so hard… I think I’ll just watch the one sided view on the big screen and have Matt tell me what to think.

It seems like that’s the American Way these days. :/

Well, you know me: the old Lefty with a long memory. I read not only for information but how that information is presented, namely in word choice, and especially when I figure something has been written by committee. The last section of the government page you linked is so full of conditional phrases, it scares the shit out of me.

@ LUCKI  Walk Chew Walk Chew Walk and Chew … oops, lets both try that one again.

@Spot The problem with fracking is being questioned and that is a reasonable thing to question.  But, it shouldn’t be exaggerated.  What are reasoned tradeoffs?  What is acceptable risk?  At this point, the risk:reward seems manageable.  The problems seem to revolve around negligent behaviors rather than a flawed concept.

We all want that perfect world where we can feel the warm-fuzzies all the time.  Politicians seeem willing to spend huge sums to get us marginally closer.   Whether it is hurricane, oil spill, airplanes as missles or nuts in classrooms and theaters, we can’t come up with perfection.  All we can do is put forth best efforts to obtain reasonable and reasoned response.

I don’t know if other share my view of the link but I was also a bit shocked by it.  It is counter to Washington Wisdom (now there is an oxymoron) in the search for the most expensive solutions possible. The fact this info is on a government site seems amazing and promising.

You know we have and will do some nasty things to nature.  Strip mining comes to mind.  Chemical byproduct contaminating the ground people work on is another.  Horrid seeming tradeoffs. But where would the rest of the things that give us a standard that has lead to comfort and has increased life expectancy too?

We aren’t strong.  We require a lot of services to maintain ourselves.  Hostile environment continue to surround us.    We want and need a lot more these days than just indoor plumbing.  And, equally important, it needs to be affordable.
