Continuing a theme

Mojo got religion or gas. It could be either. Came up with a nice post knocking compulsive gambling. I added a comment there. I say that I’m not a gambler. That’s mostly true. But, it isn’t entirely honest.

Many people get caught in the moment. I can recall traveling with my grandparents at around the age of 10. It was out in Wyoming or thereabouts. We stopped at one of those roadside attractions. I think it was rattlesnakes and not much else. My grandmother and great aunt got bored and went out to the car. Gramps got sucked into a gambling game for snake skins no less. It was a scam. I wandered away and back to the car. When asked where Gramps was I squealed. Grandma was a sturdy women of Germanic extraction She towered over the cocky Frenchmen she married. We were quickly back on the highway.

Gramps was a smart guy and a good businessman. But, he had a little gamble in him and got had. It is a much lesser version of the joke about the upgrade of arriving in Vegas in a 50K car and leaving on a 250K bus. We see people at blogger conventions that don’t handle it all that well. Like my Gramps, they get caught in the moment.

I made a comment about a fellow I know in Mojo’s blog. It was about a fellow I know. He’s not the guy you’d want a daughter to bring home. His resume doesn’t exceed his rap sheet. You can read his flaws there. One I failed to mention was drug dealer. With all that, he could be the most generous person and when you won him as a friend it wasn’t just for the fair weather.

I really enjoy reading the poker blogs. After all we share an amazing interest. So many of them I classify my friend. The Internet is liberal in that. It also lets us be a different person or maybe the right way to put it is less dimensional. What’s attractive or interesting there might be less when they’re the next door neighbor.

I don’t think there are any serial killers in the group but then you never know. I do know that some are trying to put on an act. Well, we all do from time to time. Whether it is an alter ego or Walter Mitty, the net caters to it. But, over time, we give away more than we hide.

I’m not the only one being a bit introspective. Otis, as usual, is carrying it to new heights in today’s blog.

The blogosphere – to be ponderous – is an interesting place. It is the original and more honest bit of social networking. It has more reality than any TV version. It is harder to blog than it is to be brilliant in 140 characters or less. Blogs don’t allow you to be that facile.

If only one of us knew something lasting about poker…

ADDENDUM:

Well, I mentioned my not being totally truthful about gambling. I play cheap stuff and have fun. I’ve avoided trying to ‘move up’ much. The fact that I’ve shown a very modest profit over the years is amazing when you consider the rake I paid for that enjoyment. But the following chart is the last few weeks in the market. The lines are $100 increments. How I can be comfortable with that gamble and less comfortable with .25-.50 game variance is amusing.

    Probably gas, lol.

I signed up for Cake Poker. It didn't ask for an e-mail, just a name. I used Ken Provo, hope it didn't want a screen name or something squirrel-ish.
