The Fix
Not my poker one. This one looks like it might be in though. Another A.G. – this time in CT – is on a price fixing case. For this one I will add – ABOUT TIME.
You can get the particulars here. It is about the pricing of e-books. The only Kindle I have is an app that runs on my computer. And, until something changes, it will be the only one I use. I like the convenience of picking up a book in the moment. It is handy. No arguing with that.
That A.G. points to price fixing. That seems a distinct possibility. The stuff I read is as cheap in paperback as it is as an e-book. That bothers me and it should bother tree huggers.
The old song and dance was the cost of materials was what drove up prices. OK, I understand that the 25-cent paperbacks of my youth aren’t viable. But, what about the savings we at least perceive being there? It is hard to make the case that e-delivery consumes the same cost as materially fashioning a traditional book.
Actually, I can usually buy books at less than the cost of an e-book. Amazon offers a buy 4 and pay for 3 deal in many areas. At the same time, the ebook usually duplicates the paperback price. Boo!!!! Savings? No! A 25% premium.
And, Kindle has a DRM setup. I can’t gift a purchased book to a friend. I did a lot of that and got lots of nice reads in return.
So, as Clara Peller used to say, “Where’s the beef?

ADDENDUM:
Well, back to back 3rd places in that silly little stud tournament I usually play each morning. It isn’t going to pay off much but a supersizing; but, it keeps me out of trouble.

Here's another disadvantage of a Kindle: Some books have great photos, and they are rendered in black and white and only so-so resolution.
