A blog about Poker
Seeing that I’ve been running my mouth about everything but…
I guess it is time for a poker blog. But, even here it will have to be of sorts with some very basic knowledge. I played about 100 hands of Stud yesterday. It was .25-.50 so there isn’t a ton of excitement involved.
UB seems to have more than its fair share of glass tappers. The table I sat at was populated with the normal, loose, passive, calling stations. It was a place where you knew there would be a profit potential. I got crap cards. At such a table I’m hoping to see 30% of hands with mid-range stuff with draw potential. I wasn’t able to get half that. But, 10-bucks made it to close to 25.
There was a guy that was playing fairly tight and picking up some nice starting hands. When he got them he’d play as aggressive as possible from the bring-in on. That isn’t something Sklansky promotes as +EV. At such tables you try to pot load late when you’ve made a hand.
The reason is a simple one that folks like him never get. When you build a pot you price in draws. Some of the very vitriolic comments were closer to being self-directed than he realized. It is really funny when the guy tapping on the glass is doing it from inside the aquarium.
This guy used every complaint. If it wasn’t the idiots he was playing against who wouldn’t get out of his way, it was the site’s action shuffle.
The thing about this is that the guy was not unusual. There’s a huge amount of this going on there. You don’t see it on the other sites because the players are more knowledgeable.
At the table were people that really made you drool more than Homer Simpson in a donut shop. The guy to my immediate left played and chase almost every hand. He showed down some horrendous beats but most of the time was donating. Two to his left was Mr. Action who’d bet or raise with any scare card. He handed me several juicy pots with his scheme. Two past him was his little brother. Stud has 8 seats and there wasn’t a single player that I felt concern about playing against.
The site plays like they used to be before the UIGEA. A lot of it is boring play where the other guy get to think he’s a stealing genius on small pots. But, when you get your fair share of hands hitting it is godlike feeling. Of course the godly state is Lilliputian; but, that beats blogging your angst.
