Outfoxed
Love it or hate it — Fox Network. This week might be the one for a little love.
John Stossel:
On my Fox Business show this week (Thursday, 8pm & midnight EST), I look at government’s bans on gambling.
Gambling is hugely popular. More Americans play poker than golf or tennis. Millions watch people play poker on TV. More than a hundred million dollars are bet every day — and that’s just in places where it’s legal, like Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Indian reservations. Much more is bet illegally.
Now and then, authorities crack down on those illegal games. Typically it’s on those video poker machines in your local convenience store. The authorities need to protect us from the addictiveness of gambling, they say. On my show, I debate Focus on the Family’s Chad Hills, who defends these crackdowns, saying:
“Gambling is the art and the science of deception that feeds on the exploitation of human weakness for the sole purpose of monetary gain.”
