If it ain’t broke

We can't be talking about Washington.

When I fired up the TV this AM, the local news reported that Caterpillar had released a statement that the new health care legislation would cost them an additional 100-million/yr.

Those are numbers that corporations won't be able to ignore. They will search for greater efficiency. That will cost jobs.

In a way, I hope it does smite them hard. They could have had this discussion last week when it might have swayed some votes. I'm sure they aren't alone in trying to run under the radar of those who see the corporate world as the source of evil.

Health care is one-fifth of our economy and that has grown exponentially in recent times as it has consistently outstripped inflation. Throw in the cost of a two front campaign by the military and there isn't much left to grow an economy. We tried that under Johnson and it brought about the economic downturn of the 80's. Johnson's Great Society was supposed to have cured all our inequities and ills using a similar attitude.

I hope I am very wrong; I fear I am not. And the pot odds here really suck!

ADDENDUM:

The lack of poker writings isn't related to not trying. It is related to not try very well. I believed too much in TPTK of late. Throw in some big pot poker and I suck.

Tough time to be a doctor looking for a job in California. It’ll all turn out okay though, right?
