Cashout and Me
If I throw in “and baby makes three” I won't be qualifying for the Ipoders' Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (The song is My Blue Heaven for those who are decade challenged.) Getting sand kicked in my face is par for the course these days; but, at the tables.
This is an easy review of my play. To recap, I was an above average tournament and SnG player at low stakes. I found it challenging and enjoyable. Then it changed. I started what I called my boredom tilt. Maybe boredom isn't the perfect word but it is close. I found myself getting a couple of hours in and then getting mad/bored/stupid. If this could be broken down into a mental conversation, it'd go something like:
Me: If I do this, it is really stupid?
Other Me: Yeah, so true. Let's go for it!!!
The thing is I still enjoy tournaments. I just don't for 3-4 hours. I tried ring games and that fun because I can walk when the urge hits. At ring, much over an hour is a long session.
I'm actually a better tournament player these days than I was then. I can work more situations to my benefit than I was able to then. That makes it fun but then the boredom hits and I self-destruct.
That's why Cashout tournaments are getting me to play again. Yesterday, was a prime example. I get low final table money out of more than the normal routine. The play is aggressive/stupid early and I can capitalize on that. I had more than doubled up yesterday and considered cashing at a bit below my norm. The cards hadn't cooperated that much and I was losing interest. For some reason, I decided to play on. And the tilt hit and I walked beating myself over the head, yet again.
This cashout idea on Tilt is perfect for me. It lets me do my thing early when there great opportunity and then leave a winner. Unless, I experiment and end up like the last one. But another starts in a few minutes. Unfortunately, they don't have a lot of them and many are at times I'm not interested in. But, it is enough.

Today, I cashed for a 50-cent profit. Not the outcome I wanted but antes were ready to kick in and my M was shrinking. I never had an above average stack. It was a struggle to just get to where I ended.
My goal at the start is to get to final table money. Of course that isn’t always going to work. It is a realistic approach in my mind anyway. To continue when you’ve got a stack is an allure but the gambling that takes says that there’s a risk:reward that is hard to justify.
