Haiti
Well, I sent a donation to the Salvation Army earmarked for Haitian Relief. SA is my vehicle of choice in such situations as more of the money is used to help than would apply had I sent it to the Red Cross. That said, I have mixed feeling about the donation.
Haiti is the least prosperous country in the western hemisphere. And there are 'good' reasons for it. They have a repressive economic structure that brought about the substandard buildings that tumbled to the ground killing thousands. In a way, my donation will help foster the maintenance of that type of government. That's a negative. But, I've got to look beyond that to the people who deserve better than bare subsistence in good times and are now decimated.
I am happy to report that when I went to the SA site last evening it was very slow. Looks like others are answering the call.

I didn’t know this so thanks. It’s good to check out how much of the money is used for ‘administrative’ costs. Is there a web site that measures this?

SA is a religious group. Drawbacks there. And, they don’t have the same reporting requirements.
As a negative, SA has been sending a lot of begging mailing. I used to give often to Wounded Warrior but they too went professional marketing. There I switched to Soldier’s Angels which seem lean while doing the same and more for our troops.
Looking forward to seeing the photos on your site!
