Freedom
If you are a regular reader, you realize that I can make stupid remarks – yes, time and again. It seems ingrained in the “Internet Experience” or is that InternetExperience? I should check out those new word dictionaries more often in my staggering around CyberSpace...
We take freedom for granted too easily. We see the horrors in Iran, China, Azerbaijan and other places outside our comfortable lives and think we're immune. Then, thing like the UIGEA smack us up the side of the head and we see reality.
While evil-poker gets the blame as something middle America doesn't fathom properly, there are other 'evils' that leave similar openings in our freedom. Today, you can throw in porn – hard and soft – along with 'illegal' downloads as chinks in the dike of our freedoms. And, politicians love chinks – although Chinks have been subject to varied prohibitions in our history.
Out in wild and woolly Australia, they are implementing a general filter to do away with porn and 'illegal' sites. Prohibition keeps trying to work and mucks up freedom on a periodic basis – I'll drink to that.
Well, I'm off to play a bit of illegal poker which will likely see obscene things done to my stack. See you in jail another redeposit.
