Making a List?
Be sure to check it twice. This last weekend in Vegas many found out who's naughty or nice. Well, I guess that lot was all naughty but in a nice way. Way to go WPBT!
OK, sucked you in with a post that looked like a poker post. But this one is looking for a buyin or two from you guys.
First up is Soldier's Angels. I first gave too the Wound Warrior Project but they went mainstream and this one seems to be staying grass roots.
So drop a buyin on Soldier's Angels who really support our troops. How you ask? Well hear it from the guys on the pointy end of it
I wanted to express my dearest thanks. After an IED attack and about a two hour fire fight, myself and two of my soldiers were placed on a medevac flight and flown to a hospital. Our uniforms had to be cut off, and of course we arrived without any of our gear. So needless to say we had no clothing and hygiene items. A chaplain at the hospital brought us each a back pack with clothing and hygiene items. The items given to us by Soldiers Angels were all we had for three days, until uniforms could be given to us. I just wanted to let you know that it meant so much to me and my two soldiers to have been helped by you in our time of need. – SFC J
In the last weeks they've shipped 50,000 goody bags to the troops to give them a taste of home. You know we all think of the kid down the block with his granny sending him home made cookies every week. But, a lot of guys are from broken homes or such and don't get love mail.
So send them a buyin and do your good deed for the season. That the real deposit bonus for this time of year.
Second up is the Salvation Army. This is the time of year they are hard to miss but easy to ignore. While Red Cross executives get chauffeured up to work capital hill, the Salvation Army hardly gets much more than three hots and a cot. I mentioned I switched to Soldier's Angels from a similar group that went mainstream fund raising. I look for outfits that don't suck in a whole lot of cost and convert max bucks to the purpose.
My Uncle was in WWII and worked troop ships. He always donated to the Salvation Army when everybody on TV was pimping the Red Cross. Why? He saw the RC selling donuts to departing grunts and the SA giving them away.
You know it is nice this time of year to stop by the post office and pick up a needy kid's Santa letter to give him a nice day. Not a bad idea either. But, the SA is there for the kid 365. (Obviously, ignoring leap year.)

I worked as a PR/Fundraiser/Volunteer coordinator for Sally in the mid-80s. I heard the same story from veterans. The Salvation Army has a mandate that only 20% of the funds received can be used for administration. The Red Cross? Something like 75% is a number I heard. The RC gets the press, Sally does the work. Everyone who can afford it should drop a fiver in every bucket they come across. I know of no better charitable organization.
We did our charity this year too – the company had a discount program where I could buy super discounted electronics and donate . . . felt pretty good.
And naughty is all relative Ken . . . I wasn't expecting Santa to show anyway after age 40. Give you a lot more leeway.
Purple shoes rocked!
