Barry as in Shulman
He seems to have been trashed ringside and in various blogs. Yes, he is the father of the village idiot. Yes, there are love-hate relationships with his magazine.
I'm not as down on him like many are. I was an early poster in his forum. A bonus to that was a set of rules that'd qualify you for a nice monthly freeroll. It was either one or two thousand, sorry but I forget.
I played in those freerolls. It was above average competition that I enjoyed. I even won one and managed to place well in several others. In one of the earliest ones Jeff won it. He played loose cannon and also managed to luckbox off that. Some might of thought it disrespectful play. They had a number of their employees in each tournament as a way to interact with the readers/forum-trolls. After the win, Barry came to the forum to ask if Jeff should be allowed in future events. I voted yes. But, that was a remarkable courtesy extended by Barry that was unnecessary.
He came across as a nice guy then. He and his family business have had their run ins with Harrahs. They were the first to get exclusive media right that later went to Bluff and their buddies at PokerNews. So, Jeff played pissy-face with Harrahs. Dumb but not totally unexpected. There had been a lot of hate thrown at Harrahs exclusivity by more than just Cardplayer. I would be included in that group along with Pauly and others.
Fathers raise their kids and hope they make them proud. If they don't or lose the appearance of that then, at some point, you have to quit blaming the ol' man. Barry never did anything but act friendly to his forum community and really doesn't seem deserving of disdain.
Just my opinion.
