Meanwhile,
back at the ranch. The ranch being Ultimate Bet these days. I'm playing a bit of Stud and HORSE. They changed the points and much more in their favor. And they are expiring the bonus like other sites. Bummer! But, it is still fishy.
As a result of the new setup, I'm playing a bit higher than the bankroll should allow but not gross about it. There aren't a lot of tables for stud or HORSE. So, I've been sitting at what is available.
The 1-2 is as high as I typically have been playing. People always talk about adjusting and I guess I'm in the process of doing that. It was notoriously easy to clear bonus at lower levels in the old setup. In fact, clearing points now is about the same at .50-1 as at 1-2. The 1-2 table is also marked with a lot more aggression. I can adjust to that but it is more work and less hands. And less hands means points are often harder to come by.
The obvious thing is to forget about the bonus and I'm likely to follow that route for the future. I do have rake-back for the account and that may be at least close to as workable. Either doesn't provide an excuse for poor play. But, it does help with the variance.
What the added pressure did do is cause me to walk quicker with a more modest profit. At lower levels, I can work a single loose cannon profitably. It harder at greater limits and even more aggressive play. And, it really doesn't work toward my strength.
When we're younger we tend toward impatience. We want the world to march to our drum. I'm finding – with poker at least – that aging reintroduces that tendency for obvious reasons. I try to play more hands than maybe is warranted. So, adjusting to aggression actually seems harder than it should. As a result I have to keep reminding myself of what works.
But, that part of the fun of poker. One has to conform to the environment as much as the cards. I just find it annoying and as a result tend toward shorter sessions. That smarts a bit at UB because there are typically fewer tables available. If they weren't as typically juicy that send me packing. But, it is still the easiest site to work that I can find out there.
If you aren't playing there think about clicking on the thingy on the right to get the rake-back.
ADDENDUM:
I'm not a big fan of bad beat jackpots. But, if you like them the UB one is huge at the moment and approaching $600K. It is even tempting me to head for the Hold'em side.
