Ya Gotta Love It

While I prepare to try to take a dump in PokerStars' mess kit, I'll still compliment the writing over in their blog.  This one is from Stephen Bartley.  It is about being human and also about smart play being a right for the unwashed masses.

Greg Raymer is about as solid a player as you'll find.  He's ready to go deep at any time and varies his game as well as any player.  In the past, his comments on play were gobbled up by the forum junkies.  If you want to ask if you'd played a hand optimally, he's as good a source as you'll find.

Steven managed to include this gem in one of his blogs:

 UNEXPECTED HOLDING OF THE HOUR

We picked it up on a flop of A♦3♠3♣. Two people checked to Greg Raymer, who checked behind. On the 8♥ turn, the one-seat bet 2,600 and Raymer called. On the 2♣ river, the bettor checked, Raymer bet 3,500. His opponent called.

"Ace-king," Raymer said, and nearly everybody at the table–including him–expected the FossilMan to rake in the pot. Then his opponent turned over 3♦6♦

"I did not put you that," Raymer said. "My only question was whether you tie me or you lose."

Now that's honesty with chagrin.  I wouldn't expect less from Greg.  But, there is a bit more.  Many in the paid media coverage love throwing out the Donk references.   They talk about these folks inability to make the big lay down.   They offer each other outlandish prop bets about the carnage.  You could switch the names here and use it as their proof.

This was great big stack tournament poker.  It is also a fine example of small ball.   The fellow didn't get carried away with 'the power' of holding bottom set.  If anything out of the ordinary happened, it might have been Greg reading too many of those Donkament pundits' blogs. Had this happened in late play, I think Greg might have thought about his TPTK more.

Nicely done Steven and Mr. Anonymous.
