We had some interesting comments in yesterday's blog. It was about dealer tips and we, I thought, had a really nice exchange. While comments are hugely appreciated by most bloggers – its our pay in many respects – it isn't the greatest medium. Yes, you can subscribe to blog comments but it is still a bit of an awkward process. That got me to thinking... (ouch)
With a genuine server at my beck and call, ignoring my limitations, it is possible to set up a forum. I could make the forum work for a variety of situations. If you wanted a private forum to chat during the WSOP or just keep it to a group of friends, that's a possibility. You'd have forum control of that space and could exchange passwords with your group. If you wanted to chat on particular topics, we could do that.
While IM is nice and comment are useful, forums provide a way to chat that allows one to post to others without that person having to be online as IM requires. It lets you develop a topic without bouncing back to a blog where you might think such an exchange was drifting outside the scope of the blog's original topic.
This would be a bit of work but not that big a deal. (Hopefully!) I'm willing to undertake it; but, only if some of you would want or support the effort.
What about it? Anybody Interested?
ADDENDUM:
Got the cable for setting the TV up as a monitor. Seem quite decent. It is brighter than either of the old monitors. Need to play with that. Hopefully, color setting for the TV and monitor modes can be stored separately. Hope that is the case as the monitor is a bit on the bright side for text use.
I always rant about PBS' pledge week where all those self-help gurus muck up the place. I ran across this article which makes me think it is probably even damaging at another level. I know navel gazing is a popular pastime for the in group of urban professionals that they are try to get to pony up. But, I wonder just how worthwhile the effort in 'personal enrichment' and getting pledges.
