UB Update
I managed a new bankroll high over the weekend. That isn't a lot to crow about – even though the month was outstanding in growth. I've increased my bankroll about 450%. But, that factually is about the same as kissing your sister.
I've been back to playing on UB for exactly a month. I put 50-bucks on the site. It was an experiment and there wasn't a bonus offered so going in heavier didn't have a lot of support. I was still on Comcast so expecting problems with disconnects. BTW, haven't had a disconnect since switching to DSL. Anyway, I didn't have a lot of flexibility in levels to play.
You may remember I took down a HORSE tournament for $80. Take that away and I'm dead on a 300% gain. You might think that makes me a winning player. Well, yes in a maybe, sorta, kinda way. I've actually made that and a scosh more from the bonus. I've gotten 16 bonus payouts at $5 and a points buyback for $25. That is $105. Throw in the tournament and we're at $185. Fact is I am about break even.
PokerTracker – which cratered again the other day – reports about 3 weeks of all that. It show me making 2.00 BB/100. The amount for those roughly 3 weeks is $24.14. However, the rake is $50.60. Without the bonus, my ring success – extrapolating from PokerTracker's junky software – is -$26.46. (BTW, my purchase of PokerTracker software was my worst bad beat in poker. Breaking and flaky without decent support.) That success parallels Federal Government bookkeeping results. It ignores complete facts. Bonus alone is preventing my hemorrhaging.
If there is one thing proven, it is that it is impossible to play lower limits and beat the rake. I can show a profit only as long as Ultimate Bet puts its money in bonus instead of aping the major sites who have satisfactory player counts without actively seeking new or more active players.
I have parallel results from FullTilt. There I have less than a buyin left but having played there actively for almost 6 months. I paid over $75 in rake. Profitable? Anything but unless you factor in the enjoyment. On that basis, I'd say winner.
