Oscar Here

As in The Grouch – there is something in the process that seems to cause this to happen.  Last night Andy Rooney was sounding on people sending him critical mail.  They said he was negative. He is.  I am.  I also have hair growing in a new, unsightly manner.  I just trim it and avoid looking like a labor leader from the past.

John L. Lewis, Andy and myself seem more argumentative than is necessary at times.  One's dead, one's overly proud, and one's writing this.  Before it is all over, I am destined to combine the three. Rooney can bitch all he wants.  Like Superman's attributes, it is classed by him as “Truth, Justice and the American Way.”   After all he's Greatest Generation AND Fifth Estate.

Everybody seems unhappy these days.  The solution seems to throw money at it.  Even though our mothers explained ad nauseum – but we love em – that money can't buy happiness.  We are moving from a period of excess money and should, at this point, start believing Mom. We weren't all that happy spending our gains from all those sub-primes.  Seemed like we might have been but found it transient.  Today, the idea is to get happiness by letting the government spend it instead.  And the government doesn't have a mom to instruct them on their folly.

The three of us represent three different generations.  Each had its own difficulties and each approached them in a different matter.  And all, at least in some respects, are doomed to abject failure by ignoring that which went before that they hold in disdain.  Grouches seem filled with disdain.  It is how we show our personal dissatisfaction that our statues have yet to go up in the park.

This dissatisfaction is by the way a marketable commodity.  The PBS pledge week crapola just had a 'special' for the ladies and the speaker talked about the need to remake their lives for success. Now this was a collection of women who were capable of sending more money in than the next guy; all to get an invite to that special pledge week presentation.  The attire they exhibited wasn't from Walmart.  They might have even had very nice shoes.

As the link exhibited, some at least try to avoid bad history repeating. History does repeat.  A lot of it is that visceral component that produce the three of us mentioned.  We can complain and be oh so right in the process.  Then posture on our success while not contributing one bit to an answer.  So, I guess we'll all go with the herd and get  results haing someone throw money at it regardless of what mom told us.

ADDENDUM:

Email isn't secure.  The Internet isn't secure.  Politicians and company selectively acknowledge that.  And of course, the self-centered result doesn't do you or me any good.

Have you noticed that the old support@insert-here.com are drying up.  Back in the good old days of just a couple of years ago,  companies at least paid e-lip service.  Now, they tell us that they are stopping that for our own good.  Give me a break.

I can't send them an email with my complaint because e-mail isn't secure.   Let not think about whether or not we care.  Why can't that be my decision instead of some staff guy with an interest in his agenda trumping mine,   After all, the Internet itself lacks security.  If security is the end all, shut down that money making Internet site that you are happy to compromise the security of.   You don't mind when some crook busts in and steals my and a few hundred-thousand credit card and personal data records from your customers.  Seems my wish to talk to you without secure email isn't quite as much damage as your other ill conceived ideas.  But, it does keep my annoying ass off your desk more easily by making me jump through your dumb hoops.
