One of those
That is often a preface to a lot of nastiness. “One of those showed up and...” One of those can be an ethnic slur or something interesting in poker. Today I just got off “One of those” and in this case tables. It could have been nasty but didn't quite succeed.
I hopped on UB that A.M. Which is hardly unusual. The only thing going was a 1-2. I was tempted and had the pointer on an open seat when the R for reserved kicked in. Saw it as a sign and went over to my usual .25-50 and opened a new table. Guy immediately sits to my right – thankfully. We played a few hands heads up – killing me in the process. The table started to fill though and we had a game.
It was one of those in a number of ways. I hit rolled up kings at the same time another guy hit rolled up aces. The guy who'd clobbered me heads up was doing it to others. He was the kind of player that like to play and chase. His VP$IP was in the 90's. His typical winner went runner runner at the end to show down an baby flush without a pair or premium card in the hand.
He nailed me several times with that kind of play. He had the luckbox wrapped around him. That isn't to say he was winning a lot. He managed staying above water and even tripled up at a point. But, his willingness to mix it up kept the outflow close to what came in.
I managed later to get him nicely a few times. He probably was ahead of me a bit when I left – not by choice but from another disconnect. By that point, I was a BB below dead even.
All in all, I was quite happy. Things weren't working all that well and it wasn't one of those nasty session. Just one of those where a card here or there could have made it special. But the good stuff didn't improve that much or the other guys whatever seemed to always get there. When that happens and you can exit without major damage. It is one of those good with a form of fortune attached.
ADDENDUM:
Back in olden times, fonts were something new and exciting. You could buy a disk full of them and install all or some in that new invention – the graphical user interface. If you got too many installed. You saw a slowdown of unbelievable proportions. In doing this blog, I started with Courier and at the end changed it to Times New Roman. Not very interesting; but, to do so I brought up the list of fonts available. Now I haven't installed a font on purpose in this machine since I got it. The list was huge – beyond huge. Lets go with humongous.
People get stuff installed by other's intent all the time. That new machine that booted in a seeming heartbeat now struggles to display the desktop. You can type MSCONFIG in your Start-Run box and view all that is now part of your startup. Everybody seems so selfish in optimizing the system for their application. Run Adobe and it install a check for updates. Others do similar things or place a stub in memory to speed their startup. It builds a mess that typical users are stuck with. Go run MSCONFIG and dump what you can. You'll run better and maybe get fewer disconnect playing poker.

More RAM is something else that helps. I’ve upgraded twice.
RAM is like money (and some other things) — hard to get too much.
