Celebrate the Price of Freedom

Monday will close out the long weekend honoring those who served in uniform I did that but it was in a time where it wasn’t an option. I stumbled through without the tour to Nam but ended up getting extra riot training. I’m not at the top of the list for honors but at least I know a guy who is. At least I know how to honor him properly. TEN HUT – HAND SALUTE.

Here is another real deal for your enjoyment. And follow the current crop.

The little town I lived in as a youth always had the biggest parades in the county. We’d get a bunch of pot bellied guys and marching bands – along with tractors from local farms and dealers pulling floats made of tissue and chicken wire. Good times were had by all. The pot bellies were lead by their color guard and didn’t really impress. But, every once in a while you’d hear something that made you think the old duffers might have been different from your idea of ‘em – Anzio, Guadalcanal, the Bulge, the Ploteste raid. Damn those ol’ duffer did something special. There is a long list of actions that came after. And the rank grow and grow. People who defend freedom to the ultimate.

I have to mention one more buddy. He uses JBHarshaw as a handle. He was in the bunker as staff for Stormin’ Norman. Good poker player and good friend. Lifer!  You won’t juke him in a standby — barracks, poker or life.
